Chhatarpur Temple is devoted to Goddess Katyayani, a portion of Navadurga, and is located in the upscale neighbourhood of Chhatarpur in South Delhi. The temple, which was founded by Baba Sant Nagpal Ji in 1974, is India’s second largest after Akshardham Temple (which is also in Delhi). The temple is a marvel of outstanding architecture that is a mix of South and North Indian forms, and is known for its fabulous lattice screen work (jaali pattern). The structure also features smaller chambers dedicated to idols of various gods, such as Maa Mahishasurmardini, Ram-Darbar, Radha-Krishna, Shiv-Parvati, Laxmiji, Ganeshji, Hanumanji, and others. Moreover, the luxurious ‘Shayya Kaksh,’ which is Goddess Katyayani’s resting room, is the mandir’s showpiece; the room contains a silver bed and dressing table.

A respected location of worship in the compound is a sacred tree. People tie a thread around the tree and make a wish; it is said that the tree has supernatural abilities and those whose wishes are made with faith, passion, and a religious attitude come true. The temple’s main holiday, Navratri, is celebrated with great passion and excitement; the management also distributes langar food to over a thousand worshipers.
